Kisatchie National Forest Ban on Deer Hunting w/Dogs

All,
The Regional Forester, Elizabeth Agpaoa, has once again issued a ban on deer hunting with dogs within the Kisatchie National Forest. Please read more at this link... http://www.fs.usda.gov/kisatchie. Ms. Agpaoa is also the Regional Forester for ALL National Forest lands in Mississippi.
We, the Mississippi Hunting Dog Association, along with the Louisiana Sportsman Alliance and other groups are working diligently to file an appeal to this decision.  Below is a link to  'Individual Notice of Appeal' for each of you to print, sign and send to the address highlighted in yellow. This is an opportunity for each individual to express their opposition to this decision and any future decisions that may impact hunting with dogs in Mississippi. It is our understanding that ALL US Citizens can file an appeal, therefore it IS NOT limited to just those with valid hunting licenses.
Please take a moment to oppose this decision. All appeals must be postmarked by April 13.
Thank you,
Matthew R. Scott

Decision in Kisatchie NF has been Overturned

Members of the Mississippi Hunting Dog Association,

It is with great pleasure to inform you that the December 2010 US Forest Service Decision to ban deer hunting with dogs in the Kisatchie National Forest has been overturned! It is my hope that this decision will set a precedence for years to come as well as serve as an example to what can be accomplished with this organization.  When the original decision to ban deer hunting with dogs was released in December 2010, the Mississippi Hunting Dog Association, along with many others, appealed this decision.  Thank you to all of you that participated in this appeal.  We must continue to move forward as an organization by respecting all forest users, fellow hunters, and private landowners as we have many more goals ahead.  More information can be viewed below.

Sincerely,

Matthew R. Scott
Secretary,
Mississippi Hunting Dog Association

Kisatchie National Forest Deer Hunting w/Dogs Closure Appeal

Members of the Mississippi Hunting Dog Association:

On December, 16, 2010, the Regional Forest Supervisor (Elizabeth Agpaoa) made a decision to end all deer hunting with dogs on the Kisatchie National Forest in Louisiana (approximately 604,000 acres).  The MDHA, along with other states' hunting dog associations and like groups are in the process of officially appealing this decision.  From this appeal, we have developed a one page individual appeal letter for each of our members to sign.  Please complete the printable version below and mail it to the address highlighted in yellow.  Anyone can sign one of these forms, not just hunters or members of our association.

All comments must be received in Washington, DC by January 30, 2011.  Any comments received later than that will not be considered.

2010 - 2011 Deer Season Dates, Rules, and Regulations

The Mississippi Hunting Dog Association would like for everyone to enjoy the 2010-2011 deer season with dogs and wish them the best of luck. During the season please remember to respect private landowners, non hunters, and those that choose not to hunt the way we do. The officers of the MSHDA have worked very hard throught the past year to preserve our privilege to deer hunt with dogs and it is ultimately up to the dog hunters to preserve the future of this sport.
